Mid-Term Symposium – Xi’an China

We recently had our mid-term symposium and project meeting at Northwestern Polytechnical University in Xi’an, China.  The Symposium included talks from all NOMAD partners and also contributions from a related EU IRSES research project ABREM.  All the presentations were extremely interesting and provided an opportunity for the 50 students attending the symposium to quiz the speakers on the research carried out by the NOMAD and ABREM projects.  You can see photos from the event here.

The presentations were:

Progress of Protein Crystallogenesis in Northwestern Polytechnical University – Prof Yin Dachuan (NWPU, China)

Protein sorption by carbon materials – Dr Vodym Mochalin (Drexel University, USA)

Detection of pathogenic bacteria with Electrochemical impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) using bacteriophages at a single-use graphite electrodes modified with gold nanorods – Dr Farzaneh Moghtader, Hacettepe University, Turkey

Development of materials for biomedical and environmental applications at Drexel University – Prof. Yury Gogotsi (Drexel University, USA)

Carbon nanotube-based multiscale carbon/carbon composites – Dr Song Qiang (NWPU, China)

Moderating inflammatory processes through nanostructured design – Dr. Susan Sandeman (University of Brighton, UK)

Design and Engineering of Anodic Ti02 Nanotube Photonic Crystal for Dye-Sentitized Solar Cell – Dr Xie Keyu (NWPU, China)

Strontium and Magnesium substituted DCPD coating for carbon/carbon composites prepared by pulsed electrodeposition method – Dr Liu Shoujie (NWPU, China)

Nanostructure hybrid materials for medical and environmental applications – Prof. Sergey Mikhalovsky (University of Brighton, UK)

Nanoparticles and Nanostructures for Diverse Applications – Prof. Erhan Piskin (Biyomedtk, Turkey)

Nanoporous activated carbon adsorbents for haemoperfusion applications – Dr Yishan Zheng (University of Brighton, UK)

The following day (May 20th) the project partners met to discuss the work undertaken and plans to progress the project.  We look forward to publishing our results soon.

We would like to sincerely thank Dr.Zhang LeiLei and Prof. Li Kezhi for their wonderfully attentive hosting and to all at Northwestern Polytechnical University, staff and students alike, for the warm welcome and for all the assistance given during the visit.
